Interview with In-House Artists: Ryann Weir & Matthew Marsh

Ryann and Matthew are 2 of the many artists working to create K-A-A-R-O-N as apart of the In-House Artist group.

What are you most excited about in bringing your work to the FGP Festival?

RW: I'm excited to share what happens when a crew of talented people from different disciplines create a story where the audience is the protagonist of the play.

MM: I'm excited for the audience to experience the strange piece the in-Artists have devised.

This is a piece unlike anything I've ever done before, and trying new things, like writing scenes and hearing them out loud has really been fun and eye opening! I hope the piece is funny and mind bending.

Who are some of your art heroes?

RW:Tina Fey, Beyonce, Ernie Scoville

MM: Chet Baker, Esperanza Spalding, my husband Loïc Arsac, Sufjan Stevens, Lauren Whitehead, David Cale, Beyonce, Xavier Dolan, Preston Martin, Brian Wilson, Joan Didion, James Baldwin, Mrs. Smith.

What is a highlight of your process with FGP this past year?

RW: Taking a quick Fall retreat to Little Pond to share ideas and be outside.

MM: I loved going on the FGP inHouse Artist Retreat and bonding over the work we were making. We would write scenes by day and roast marshmallows around the campfire by night. Every artist brings something very different to the group and it was fun learning from the brilliant minds I had only known as acquaintances before.

Oh no, your process is showing! What's your artistic process guilty pleasure? Or what's the thing you do that you don't want to tell us?

RW: HAPPY TO TELL YOU PAJAMAS ALL DAY!

MM: I LOVE HEARING PEOPLE READ WHAT I WRITE.

What other events in the FGP Festival are you really excited about?

RW: Excited to see what the political event is going to be all about.

MM: I like everything Nate Weida does so I'm very excited to see his work.

Send us an image that describes or represents your artistic process.

RW: You cannot write with your brain in your head.
